Just tapped - Joe Coffee Porter! (plus 2 new bottles)

We had it in bottles and it went so quick we decided to give it its own tap.

Joe Coffee Porter has finally made its way into our exclusive club of fantastic draft beers.

A few weeks ago, we hosted a blind taste-testing pinning Joe VS Guinness(SPOILER ALERT: Joe won by a landslide). Needless to say Joe needed to be stocked here at CHOW284.

This beer has such a flavorful smell that follows up with an even more impressive taste. It's lighter than Guinness and 1.3% stronger. Joe is a fine product of Philadelphia Brewing Company, the same people who made Fleur de Lehigh a fan fav at CHOW284.

Doesn't that coffee mug look awesome amongst our taps?!

Don't forget about our two new bottles. We carry Saranc Pumpkin Ale and Sam Adams Octoberfest on draft, now we're offering bottled alternatives. Shock Top Pumpkin Wheat and Beck's Octoberfest has also made their way into our coolers.

Introducing some new fall/winter menu items!!!

Starting in October, CHOW284 will have about a dozen new menu items!!!

I know what you're thinking...how could the menu get any better?

Well it will. We have the inventory to plate a few of our new dishes and they're already a hit!

Here's a small preview of what we're introducing the new menu with...

Mongolian Pork Tenderlion
Sliced pork tenderlion served medium with a tangy Asian brown sauce with authentic-style rice.

Mandarin Shrimp
Our delicious variation with tender shrimp, snow peas, mandarin oranges in an orange-ginger-oyster sauce over white rice.

Cajun Catfish
Seared Louisiana style served with a vegetarian-style dirty rice with sweet jalapeno cornbread.
Autumn Harvest Bomba
Our seasonal variation with delicious pumpkin sorbetto inside a white chocolate shell.

On a side note, there's only 4 kegs of Saranac Pumpkin Ale available for THE REST OF THE SEASON and we happen to have two of them being delivered on Wednesday. The beer is so good, we've been through three kegs ourselves in less than two weeks. I highly recommend you stop by and have one before they're gone till next year.

Just tapped - Saranac Pumpkin Ale

Saranac Pumpkin Ale

Wow. All we can say is "wow." This beer is amazing.

The smell preps you with hint of cinnamon and cloves.

The taste has a crisp, hoppiness with a slight pumpkin note. It's not overwhelmingly candied, it tastes like a beer. The perfect balance of hoppiness and sweetness.

The aftertaste has a nice rush of vanilla which causes the beer to go down smooth.

Best part - it's 5.4% ABV and only $4 a pint! Upgrade to a 22oz mug for just a dollar more!

*Pretty cool tap handle.

Just tapped - Samuel Adams Octoberfest

Welcome, Sam Adams Octoberfest, to our awesome beer list.

It's that time of year when the leaves fall, the sun's gone by 6 and the seasonal beers are back on the shelf. We're starting our fall season the right way, with some Octoberfest. It's a blend of five different roast of malts including caramel and toffee. It has a generous 5.3% alcohol content and goes down smooth. This is the perfect beer for celebrating like ze Germans.

OCTOBERFEST IS UPON US!!!

Coffee Porter VS Coffee Stout....it wasn't even close.

Last night at our weekly beer tastings, we put an old brew up against a new seasonal beer and it wasn't even close. Out with the old and in with the new as the new stuff won by a very wide margin, 24-3 (there wass about 5 or 6 votes for the new stuff before I decided to even keep count).

"This stuff is flat, it has no flavor."

"It's bland compared to the other one."

"I don't even feel like drinking it. It doesn't taste like beer."

These are actual quotes about the old drink.

"Just by the smell, I knew it was going to be good."

"It's dark in color, yet really light."

"This one is Guinness, right? It has to be because Guinness is good."

The first beer discussed was Guinness. The latter, Philadelphia Brewing Company's seasonal Joe Coffee Porter. We took a few things from this tasting and one is that Guinness is merely a name. Just because it's a popular Irish stout, doesn't mean it's automatically good. People actually thought the Joe was Guinness because it was so good. As if it's impossible to brew such a tasty treat. Well, it is possible.

We're proud to announce we are now carrying Joe Coffee Porter.

Like beer? Plenty of new beers at CHOW284.

Over the last 3 months, we've done beer tastings every Thursday. The goal was to find beers that everybody enjoyed and stock them all. We've come to the conclusion that our current beer list rocks!

To go along with newly tapped Magic Hat #9, on draft we're replacing Pabst (gross), Fleur de Lehigh (seasonal) and Guinness (overrated) with Sam Adams Octoberfest, Dogfish Head Punkin Ale and Philadelphia Brewing's Joe Coffee Porter. And for those cheapskates worried about our Phillies Happy Hour, you can ease your mind with some $1.50 Miller Lite pints instead.

The bottle cooler is getting a little tight. For starters we've added a "Healthy Choices" section to our menu. It includes an Amber Ale and India Pale Ale from Fish Brewing. Everything from Fish is 100% USDA Certified Organic. They brew using waters from their own private resevoir and grow all their hops and barleys on-site with no chemicals or preservatives. We're also now carrying Woodchuck Granny Smith and Woodchuck Amber Cider which are both gluten free!
